A life in music

Carl Hinds has been living with music for as long as he can remember.

His first paid gig was a wedding in 1990. Since then, a love of records, rhythm and bringing people together has grown into more than three decades behind the decks.

He began with vinyl, moved through CDs and adapted to digital, while remaining closely connected to his vinyl roots. For Carl, DJing has never been only about playing tracks. It is about people, atmosphere and the moment when the right record changes the feeling in a room.

The sound

Carl’s sound is rooted in soul.

His sets move through soul, funk, disco, rare groove, reggae, house and global rhythms, guided by warmth, movement and human feeling.

His approach is not about chasing trends. It is about thoughtful selection, the right pace and the right connection between one moment and the next.

The experience

Carl has performed across the UK, Southeast Asia and Portugal.

His journey has taken him through weddings, private celebrations, corporate gatherings, festivals, vinyl-led nights and intimate listening experiences.

During his years in Singapore and Malaysia, he became part of a vibrant international music scene. Today, based in Portugal, he brings that same global sensibility to events across Europe and beyond.

The craft

Good DJing is not simply about having music. It is about knowing what to do with it.

Carl reads the room carefully, sensing when to lift the energy, when to let it breathe and when to introduce something unexpected.

His sets are shaped through preparation, sequencing, storytelling and instinct. The experience may feel effortless, but it is never accidental.

The teaching

Carl is also a music educator.

His teaching is practical, approachable and grounded in real experience. He helps people understand equipment, choose music, build a set and develop confidence behind the decks.

The aim is not only to teach technique, but to help people listen more deeply and create meaningful experiences through music.
